Info
This is a new area not used for orienteering before, formed of ancient deciduous woodland, parkland, meadows and streams of the former Dagnam estate deer park. It offers fast courses through runnable terrain where maintaining map contact at speed will be a challenge. The ancient woods have many earth and water features and are heavily grazed by wild fallow deer so undergrowth is minimal.
This event will incorporate club championships for CHIG and DFOK.
Note: Pre entries have now closed. However, entries will still be available on the day while maps last. As at 6pm, 7/9, the Green course is already full, and there is only one map available for Brown.
Orienteering is a challenging outdoor adventure sport exercising mind and body. You navigate between control points marked on the map, deciding the best route to complete the course as quickly as you can. It does not matter how young or old you are, you can walk, jog or run the course. This event is suitable for experienced orienteers and for people, including families, wanting to try the sport or a walk with a difference.

Planner’s Notes for Dagnam Park Event
1. The map shows several ruined fences in the park. These are mostly now just lines of concrete fence posts which can be crossed easily. However, take care near them as some parts have fence wire still attached.
2. Take care when crossing hedgerows as some may still contain short lengths of barbed wire left over from former farm use.
3. Take care when near the wild fallow deer which live in the park.
4. Take care when near water features. The deeper water features have a black line bordering them which defines them as being ‘uncrossable’. They should not be crossed by competitors during the event; alternative nearby routes should be taken instead.
5. Special map symbols:
Rootstock: Green cross on map and black cross symbol on descriptions.
Seat: Black cross on map and black circle symbol on control descriptions.
6. Mapped seats are mostly log-seats made from old tree trunks.
7. Mapped rootstocks are at least 2m in height; many smaller rootstocks have not been mapped.
8. The SE edge of the map is bounded by a golf course which is Out of Bounds to all competitors. It is shown as OOB on the map and is marked on the ground by low white posts which should not be crossed.
