At 6am there was not a snow flake to be seen - ten minutes later and it was
snowing and getting worse by the minute.
By 7am I could look back and see my tracks deep in the snow - was I silly to
continue to put out controls? every time I put down my bags of kit they were
rapidly covered in snow.
By 8am I was convinced I was an idiot to continue ... but then again in another
2 hours it could all change! It didn't !! I did however continue and , a little
later than planned , all the controls were out and a fair number of you came to
tackle the courses.
One mistake I did make was to use white tape to mark the control sites - I
should have known it would snow heavily in April !! It therefore took me much
longer to try to ensure the controls were in the right place - but one did get
misplaced. I thought I had approached on one track but obviously in error. My
main defense being that I had trouble finding the tracks at all - no- one else
was around to create a path - my apologies to those who lost time.
Eventually I did see footprints in the snow - there was only one other person
who would be about - the controller - we met up shortly after. My thanks to Mike
for his help and advise.
A big thank you also to the helpers who stood or sat for hours in the cold ,
snow and mud - and a special thanks to the control collectors who relieved me of
that job.
