It was very nice to see so many new people trying orienteering on Sunday. And, of course, nice to see some familiar faces! We had people of all ages, and lots of families with young children. Quite a few wisely followed our advice and tried the Yellow course first before moving up to try the Orange. I had planned to standard, and Thorndon Park is quite a complicated area for Essex, so the Orange was quite difficult for novices and this is reflected in the longish times. However, judging from the comments, participants enjoyed the challenge.
Several people particularly wanted to learn how to use a compass. I think that next time we will try including some coaching exercises.
